Buddha Land Centre now has a beautiful new home. Over the past few years we have been looking for a suitable property to make the centre more visible and accessible and have tried to purchase several buildings. Finally all this preperation has paid off.
Buddha Land Centre was founded in 1991 and has since then grown steadily. However, we would like to make the centre as accessible as possible to people in the area and for it to have a higher profile so that more people can become aware of and use the centre.
On the 3 March we successfully bought a new property, 1 Lawkholme Cres, at auction. The building is in central Keighley on the edge of the War Memorial Square and opposite the bus station. It is a beautiful Victorian building which served as the School Board and is an essential part of Keighley' heritage. Work has proceeded well due to the kindness of the many volunteers who have helped. Now most of the public areas are decorated leaving the offices, the kitchen and the café to prepare.
To create conditions for the move we have established a New Property Fund and are raising money to make the renovation work possible. If you would like to offer financial assistance, have any ideas or would like to participate in a fundraising event please let us know.
Now the public areas of the new centre are renovated our courses and events will be held there. 312 Skipton Rd, our old building, will now remain as a residential property for those wishing to live in a Buddhist community.
There is a beautiful and spacious meditation room ideal for running classes and courses as well as welcoming visits from local schools and groups. On the ground floor there is a reception area suitable for a community cafe, a place for people to meet friends as well as make contact with the centre. In addition there is the office space essential for the smooth running of the different courses and events we run.
